- 南方科技大学 (深圳)のJiankui He (賀建奎 副教授)は、HIV-1を発症しない"Berlin patient"の知見に基づいて1細胞期受精卵にHIV-1感染に関与するCCR5を標的とするCRISPR/Cas9遺伝子編集を加えた双生児(YouTubeではLuLu(露露)とNana(娜娜)と呼ばれている)が数週間前に誕生し、標的遺伝子以外のゲノムに異常はなく(オフターゲット編集はみられず)順調に成長していると、YouTubeで発表した (11月28日に第2回ヒトゲノム編集国際サミットで講演;以下の[出典の関連記事]の項にリンクあり)。
